Works are well under way to Newcastle's WwTW Upgrade

DAWSON-WAM's works have started in earnest to NI Water's £7m upgrade to Newcastle Wastewater Treatment Works at the foot of the Mourne Mountains.

The contract was awarded to Dawson-Wam in conjunction Ovivo Ireland and is expected to take 18 months to complete.

Having just got underway at the start of January 2012, the upgrade will put in place the latest treatment processes to meet the new EU Directives and improve the bathing waters in the local area.

The works currently involve the installation of a temporary sheet piled wall to allow the commencement of the permanent works and protect the scheme from the harsh Irish Sea.
